Someone tell me what's going on

As per usual I only have a vague clue as to how the world works. Last I checked, the free world is ruled by cute kittens and all the evil in the world is concentrated on the top of the Chocolate Mountain.

As I speak flying monkeys are emerging from my butt.

These are the things that go through my head when I force myself to attempt to pay attention to what's going on in US politics.

So, a recap.

- Hillary lost. (Maybe)
- Obama is a contender
- McCain is still asleep

If you really want to know what the Democrats were doing for the last few months, here's a good refresher.

I seriously don't know where this one is going to go, folks. One can only hope that Nader returns for President.

Honestly with all the crap going on in the political world, the cluelessness of our Congress, and the general "eh" attitude by the American public, can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on?

I mean honestly, half of the election year was spent just picking ONE of the freaking candidates. That race was scary enough. I mean, seriously, who would honestly want HIllary Clinton to rule the free world (again)? At least with Obama being the Dems' candidate there's yet another good chance that McCain will win. Of course, there is the frightening possibility that Obama would win. I have a feeling all of the eco-freaks i've oft spoke so fondly about will vote for him. And of course Bush did his party a HUGE favor by being so popular the last four years, so i'm sure there'll be a lot of Republican defectors.

Though, that's just going on the basics of what I know.

Obama is young, McCain is not. Obama is black, McCain is not. Obama is for change, McCain is for..uh..

Well, damn. It looks like due to Hillary thinking she ever had a chance (NOT), we actually don't know a lot about what we're going to gain in an actual Dem. vs Rep. battle. Honestly what I want is a good, impartial chart of where the candidates stand on the issues. Except! Oh wait, don't they change their minds every other day? Or skirt the issues and focus on nothing helpful? Everyone knows they aren't going to live up to their promises anyway, right?

Not to mention the generic slinging of whateverness. I personally like the site "I'm Voting Republican.com ". I honestly can't wait for "I'm Voting Democratic.com". Maybe we should also start "I'm Abstaining my Vote.com".

Eh, screwit. This year i'm going to vote for President Not Sure.

The parallels between their party platforms are uncanny: anti-capitalism, anti-democracy, pro-federal control of everything... the only big difference is the difference in attitudes towards the military and the state.
If they shut their mouths, Global Warming would end

I'm not sure how many people out there believe in Global Warming. Nor do I know how many believe in the Easter Bunny, Evolution, Fig Newtons, or that Hillary Clinton has ever done a good deed in her life.

However, there are enough that it has reached a 'stupidity saturation' point, and i'm tired of it.

Possibly due to Al Gore's fat-ass getting some sort of prize for perpetuating a myth.

I do admit that I haven't seen An Inconvenient Truth. Just like I admit I haven't seen any Michael Moore movie since Roger & Me. I simply can't stand the half-truths and badgering of people to make a one-sided point. More to the point I think Moore is a profiteering asshole who deserves to rot in the Canadian healthcare system, but that's not for me to decide.

The point is, I don't believe in 'Global Warming' the way people keep advertising it.

A definition from my point of view. "Global Warming" means that humans keep doing something to the air to increase the 'global' mean temperature to levels higher than would normally occur in nature.

I really don't see that happening. Like at all.

Of course it doesn't help that there doesn't seem to be any really serious work being done on studying it. Last I heard all the computer models the environmentalists have can't even calculate what's been happening over the last 20 years. It's been my experience that computer models, in order to be accurate, need to accurately model real data.

They don't.

Also, there are some scientists who believe that there's another ice age coming, carbon dioxide or not.

Hm, that's a bit confusing, isn't it?

Granted, I recently switched to having all Compact-Fluorescent bulbs in my house, but that wasn't for conservation, that was so my electrical bill would be lower.

I drive a car that uses premium gas and gets 22MPG.

I grill steak. (Sorry, that's a jab at those animal-loving freaks over at PETA, you know the ones who euthanize a lot of animals?)

Seriously, i'm tired of environmentalists. If they like the environment enough, they should live in it. Get out of their houses, go live in a tree. (Oh wait, they've tried that, but they usually get evicted)

Honestly I don't know what to think about all of the fanatical people in the world today, but I do blame technology on creating those people.

Back in the days when everyone had to run a farm, or actually work for a living, you couldn't get these green-freaks who could somehow afford to sit around all day and live without really working. The intellectuals who have never seen a cow in person. I have. They're big.

I think the biggest problem we have with most of these fanatical types is that nobody is willing to make up real data. Those who actually do research (that isn't tainted), are usually shot down by those more vocal freaks who believe that they are correct and can't consider life any other way.

I think we should find all the environmentalists and cut down a tree in their yard, then put it in their bed before they go to sleep. Maybe that'll send a message.

As if I could have ever forced myself to vote against McCain before, after watching this brilliant piece of Obama support propaganda, not only will I NOT vote Obama Way, I will also drive a railroad spike into my brain to get rid of the horrifying memory of the worst rap song in the history of rap music (and that's saying something when you consider the career of Master P). I don't know about you, but when I think of hood, I think of multi-racial multi-millionaire senators who spent their entire lives in the finest private schools his racist white grandmother's money can buy.

Seriously, I'm more hood than Obama has ever been. At least I grew up around black people in a working-class city neighborhood. The only hardship Barack has ever endured (aside from his 'mentor' being a crazy, white-hating, racist, wife-stealing fuckweasel) is being mistaken for a Polynesian. The fact that people don't see through his bullshit act is staggering.

I suppose the fact that he's semi-black makes it okay for him to be racist and associate with living excrement. You'd think that people would want their future Presidential candidate to, I don't know, have good sense enough not to associate with the openly racist for over 20 years, but I guess that's asking too much.

When the lesser evil is still Satan

It seems the 2008 Presidential race is winding down. Well, winding down in the way that it hasn't even started yet.

The Dems are still trying to figure out which candidate best represents them to take over the Presidency, the Republicans are still sitting on their asses, laughing at the Dems. So, all in all, I suppose its business as usual, however..

The democrats are making a tough choice. On one side you have a black man (whoever says that 'race' isn't part of this...race.. is really stupid) with little political experience, comparatively, to any other candidate. And on the other you have Hillary Clinton.

I would say a white woman, but I tend to think she's actually a demonspawn who is only projecting the shape of a woman.

Then on the other side of life, you have McCain, who is pretty much older than the Great Wall of China, and has been as successful with women as Charlton Heston.

Honestly, who would pick any of these three in a fight? I would imagine Hillary would win, simply because she could use her demonic powers (and lying, sack of shit husband) to overwhelm the other two, but what would that leave us with? A lying, vindictive feminist who simply wants the ultimate power trip. I can't imagine any of the world would take us seriously with her at the helm. Hell, i'm sure she would break down crying just to get sympathy from some country we were bargaining with.

Obama? Wow, with racial tensions the way they are in most of the world, i'm sure he'd be welcomed to a foreign country without being shot at by someone.

McCain...well. I guess he could slip by with most people. At least they'd be willing to stare at his younger wife long enough to get through whatever speech he would fall asleep through while presenting it.

Honestly? Lets all do a write-in for Satan. Seriously the guy must be doing something right. He's ruled over hell for quite some time and we never hear about budget deficits down there. Heck, he might even be able to pipe up some of the flaming oils down there for us to run our cars on..

No Jim, we aren't dead.

Well, mostly not dead, anyway.

It's not that there hasn't been plenty to be angry about, it's more to the point of there's been so much, where can we start?

Apple continues to grow in stature, and more and more are 'Drinking the Kool-Aid'. Disclaimer: I, too, sip on the Kool-Aid, I recently purchased an iPod Touch, have a Mac Mini and MacBook on my desk, and my wife has a Nano. That doesn't mean I totally LIKE them though.

The political situation in the US is completely laughable. Look at the latest presidential race. We have Obama, Hillary, McCain, Huckabee, and now, Nader. Honestly, people. What the hell. On a positive note, i'm pretty sure that Obama is NOT Jesse Jackson in disguise. However Hillary's role of retarded wench is being well played by herself.

The U.S. economy continues to tank. Are we finally realizing that we've over-extended ourselves and our guise of 'innovating' has come to an end? Personally I think this is best symbolized by our current attempted push for Digital and HD. I'm sure that of the households that have HD capable televisions, less than half actually receive Hi-Def signals. (I count as one, too much BS to get Dish upgraded, and they don't have channels i'd watch in HD anyway)

Car manufacturers continue to get everything wrong. H3. I rest my case.

Honestly I know that our 0 readers are probably down in the negatives. How that's possible, i'm not sure, but perhaps it's time to get some of the anger out. Unfortunately i'm not very political, and my views probably mean dick, but hell, what's another blog on the internet if not a stop in boredom?

Ah yes, the internet, billions and billions of bits and bytes. Most of them rehashes of someone else's bits and bytes. All of which come down to one basic premise, coined by Mr. 'Weird Al' Yankovic himself:

"Everything you know is wrong!"

Form & Fruit : The new Apple Frat

It's possibly (maybe, most likely) obvious that i'm not a huge fan of Apple. Sure, I respect that they made a great comeback (wow, Steve Jobs saving the company, who saw that coming..), and they do make some decent products..

..but..

Why is it that the 'Apple following' seems to be more of a Fraternity of fanboys than a gathering of intelligent people?

Or maybe i'm just on the wrong side, being a 'Bill Gates' follower.

This just got me steamed: World exclusive!!! Bob Keefe is not Fake Steve Jobs. But he is the “Intel Sticker Guy.”

You may look at that and say "Huh?". Trust me, I did. Of course you may also look at it and wonder why you're reading this blog, but I won't fault you for that.

The jist is this. This past Tuesday there was a 'Mac Event'. At this 'Event' Mr. Steve Jobs himself unveiled some more new Apple stuff. Most notably the newest rehash of the iMac. I'll try to save my excitement. But anyway, apparently there was a period at this event where some reporters were allowed to ask Mr. Jobs 'any question ever'. So, what did one reporter ask?

Why doesn't Apple put Intel stickers on Macs.

I, personally, think this is a decent question.

I already know the answer though. Because it would 'ruin the aesthetic pleasures of the Mac experience'. Because remember, you don't own a Macintosh. No, you have an experience with it.

So anyway, Dan Moren of Macuser.com wrote this article basically ridiculing the guy that asked the question. Apparently a lot of other people ridiculed him as well. I think that's bad form, even though the answer to the question should've been obvious anyway. No normal person would ask something like that, either because they don't care, or they know that Apple is way too stuck up to identify ANY of the parts that go in its system as anything special.

I'm beginning to think that Steve Jobs is an illusionist.. or a robot. Either way, he's trying to slowly take over the world by dumbing people down. Why do I say this? Because he makes products that works HIS way, and if you don't like it...too bad..

iUser -or- How I Bought An iPhone And Think I'm Swell

Idiots abound!

Obviously BoingBoing works, as I managed to run into this lovely bit of entitlement propaganda:

ATT + iPhone int'l. roaming data horror story: $3K bill

Firstly, I had to laugh because I saw this coming.

Secondly, I have to laugh, because it's an article about a disillusioned iPhone user.

The basic outline of the thing is this, the guy bought an iPhone to use "in lieu of a cumbersome laptop while traveling in Ireland and England for two weeks". He activates the international roaming plan on the way to the airport, which, as he states, is the only one offered to him. He is then quoted $.005 per KB, but the agent "did not disclose what that would translate to in layman's language (i.e., X amount per e-mail, X amount per web page, etc.)."

Idiot check, number one.

He then reveals what we already know, the iPhone can't be unlocked to work with other SIM cards. A trick many GSM phone users use. They would unlock their phones, then get a local SIM card and use the lower rates of local cards.

Continuing, he then checks his account on AT&T's website and sees that the "usage data is currently unavailable".

Ignorance check, number one.

I say ignorance check because I honestly can't blame the guy (Dave) for this one. Because i've traveled internationally, I know that usage data while roaming isn't available immediately. It typically takes a day to a week (or more) for your international roaming to get back to your home carrier. Mostly because the local carrier has to tally it up, then go through whatever procedure exists to throw it back at your carrier, who may have to take some time translating it. Basically, you won't know exactly what you did till much later.

I say ignorance check, though, because (I would hope) the iPhone has a usage screen. Every phone i've had has had one. A little screen, sometime buried in the menus, that tells you how much you've used, minutes or data, since the last time you reset the counter. If the guy was really concerned, he should've set that counter as soon as he landed and kept tabs on it. A little math and hey, he could've known his potential bill at any time!

But no.

That, and idiot check, number two: The guy claims to be a web developer, yet "I couldn't even tell you how many KB the average web page is, no less a text message to my son, an e-mail with a photo to my mother, or a quick check of Google Maps."

If you don't know, hm... Maybe use your skills and figure it out? Or hell, use standard Google, and try to learn something!

So, at the end of the trip, he finds himself with a $3,000 bill. When he complains to AT&T, they offer him $400 in credit if he signs up for a $300 per year international plan with a max of 20MB per month.

Bwahaha.

And of course, if he doesn't pay the bill by the 14th of August, they kill his account. Which, of course, includes his whole family, and his wife's business line. I think he threw that in there for the sympathy vote, myself.

He continues on to say that he found out AT&T offers a $70 unlimited data roaming plan for Blackberries. And, oh yes, he wants that plan to apply to him.

Hm.

He then says "I'm writing you in the hope that the exposure of my story might force AT&T's hand in admitting they have an inadequate solution in place for international iPhone users"

No they don't. They have a perfect solution for making money off all of you Apple fanatics.

"that they've discriminated against the iPhone in favor of the Blackberry,"

Uh, no. They're staying competitive with the Blackberry plan, as it is one of (if not, the) most popular business phones in the world. Since almost every provider has a Blackberry plan, they want to entice people to theirs. With the iPhone, well, it's an exclusive AT&T thing. They don't have to offer anything. They know they have you locked down.

"that they failed to adequately disclose the exorbitant nature of their rate plan,"

Er. No. They told you it was $0.005 per KB. Because YOU can't figure out math is not their problem.

"that they kept me in the dark about my usage specifics until it was too late to modify them,"

Again, you should've learned how to keep track of your own usage. That, and it's not necessarily their fault (see earlier).

"and that by disallowing unlocking to use a European provider's SIM with more reasonable rates,"

Ex-clus-ive. They made a deal with Apple. Technically, this is much more Apple's issue than AT&T.

"I was trapped without knowing it until that $3000 "gotcha" came knocking at my door."

There was no trap. You were given the warnings. Your own idiocy and ignorance had that "gotcha" at your doorstep.

All in all, i'm not impressed. Of course there's going to be a legion of fanboys out there who will take up Dave's call to arms. But, I doubt it'll do much in the end.

And, looking at some other comments on the issue, I had to laugh at this as well.

Referenced from this LiveJournal Entry:

"That rate per KB is outrageous and is probably only there to fleece unsuspecting customers."

HAHAHA. No. That rate is actually LESS than what I have to pay with T-mobile. If I take my BB out on the road, my data rate is $0.01 per KB in Canada, and $0.015 per KB in all other countries. Meaning I would've paid a whole extra 1 cent per KB roaming.

I don't dare try to figure out this guys roaming habits, judging by other things he's said, i'm guessing his family's phones were on there, and I have no idea how much voice this guy used, but lets assume $2,000 of that bill was data, that means:

$2,000 . $0.005 = 400,000 KB

400,000 KB = 390.63 MB

For "Two weeks of travel with sporadic AT&T EDGE network usage", that's some sporadic usage there, Dave. Keep in mind, that's ONLY for if we assume that $2,000 of that was for data. It could've been a lot more.

Thank you for this amusement Dave. You teach me that Apple fanboyism and disillusionment is still ripe and active in this country. And, give me yet another reason not to spend my well-earned money on a money trap like the iPhone.

The internet is YOU. And you're wrong.

Wasn't it last year that Time called the 'Person of the year', well.. you? All the users of the internet, every one of them. Including you! And me! And Larry down the street!

Aww...that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

No..wait, it doesn't. It makes me fear for my sanity, my life, and everything else that's good.

The internet is filled with idiots. Plain and simple. I will go so far as to say, though, that you, the person reading this, are not. Of course, unless you prove yourself to be. I'm not saying i'm not an idiot...

Well...yes I am. I'm not an idiot. That doesn't mean I can't be wrong from time to time though. However, there are people that are wrong ALL the time. Or people who are so self-centered that they don't even know what an argument is, let alone how to argue one. Take internet forums for example. There was a picture that I saw once, which had a picture of a kid in the Special Olympics. It stated,

"Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics, Even if you win, you're still retarded."

I'll agree with that statement. Not just because i've lost some arguments, but because i've won some. Why am I still retarded? Because I got in the argument in the first damn place.

Now granted, i'd say at least half of the arguments on the internet are based on which is better, Mac, PC, or Linux. Obviously there's no winner there, though Mac fanboys would gladly blow Steve Jobs, and Linux people's idea of a fun time is recompiling their OS, but..there's no obvious winner.

Then, there are the times when someone puts up a post with a semi-valid point. That's when all the fanboys of the particular service or whatever the poster is bitching about come out of the woodwork. I, recently, have tried to back-up these original posts. Mainly because most people on the internet lack logic. For example, this person had a problem where their internet provider cut service because their credit card expired, even though it didn't. They have one of those Visa cards where the expiration actually has a date. Like, 7/31/06. By that example, the card expires either on the 31st, or the 1st of August. (I'm not actually sure), but the point is, it doesn't expire on 7/2/06.

So what happens? Everyone flames the person for letting their card expire. The problem is, it doesn't. When I point this out, I then get attacked as being the original poster, and once again get told that "They should know their card expired lolz".

Unfortunately, I am human. And thus, I do irrational things, like reply.

Similarly, there was an article about the proposed XM / Sirius satellite radio merger. There were two posts attached to the article, both attacking Satellite radio.

Both by people who obviously know nothing about it.

Who's the retard again? Me. Why? Because i'm defending the services. I love Satellite radio. It was a Godsend in the world of crappy commercial FM stations. I'm listening to it right now. It makes me happy when times are sad.

Nevertheless, I am probably defending XM and Sirius to an audience that either doesn't care, or doesn't understand. As is the way of the internet. How any intelligence can come from this swirling pile of crap, i'll never know.

Granted, there are some blips of intelligence out there, like Tycho and Gabe of Penny Arcade. These gentlemen have gone so far as to start their own convention, and a donation fund for Children's hospitals. They combine gaming with sharp wit and intelligence.

Something not easy to do.

Unfortunately, I will sill post in forums. I will still subject myself to the anger and frustration of my argument being met by "lolz l00ser" and other trite internet sayings.

I now wish I had paid attention back in school when my teachers were trying to teach me cursive handwriting. I would feel so much more accomplished in a society that is accepting 'Txtspeek'.

I fear for the world, people. That there is such a diverse amount of what we consider 'intelligence' and 'wisdom', and yet so few people who are not chastised for showing such qualities. And yet, we reward ignorance and stupidity.
