I know we're just a startup blog, but we're already getting our fair share of angry readers posting responses, which is beautiful. Being angry and spouting off your opinion is as American as apple pie, especially if you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Since I can't respond directly to your responses, I figure I'll take you on right here on the Big White Board.

One thing I've noticed, and it's a common thread among liberals, especially those of color (as you described yourself). You're incredibly intolerant of anyone who doesn't follow the stereotypical black realpolitik of "All Democrat, All the Time." Apparently, blacks have completely forgotten what party fought for their freedom (Republicans) and what party enforced both slavery and Jim Crow laws (Democrats). Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat and lover of the phrase "White niggers", is a former member of the KKK.

The vote, I believe, was 100-0 in favor of the war. 1800 dead is nothing, by the way. That's an hour in Normandy. That's a single day in Vietnam. Well, the black man looting caption was from the Associated Press (AP) and he's carrying a garbage bag full of stuff, and the photo of the woman who found a loaf of bread was from Agency du Presse France (AFP). Different organizations use different rules, and AFP's photographer explained why the word finding was used in place of looting. Besides, the woman looks Hispanic to me. I'm sure I'd be upset too, if I didn't pay attention to the basic facts of the situation because I was too busy washing my collection of headache-enducing Lacoste polo shirts.
No, I think they were shooting for the same reason they were carjacking people, looting TVs, burning down buildings, and trying to boat-jack potential rescuers... because they're fucking idiots. If I'm coming to rescue you, and you shoot at me, then you're going to fucking drown or starve, because I'm bypassing your house until you learn how to behave like a non-retard. If you don't shoot at me, then I'll rescue you. The first rule of rescue, whether you're a lifeguard or a member of the National Guard, is not to put yourself in harm's way first and foremost. You can't save someone if you need saving yourself. That's why they use those floatation devices in the pool, and that's why they didn't let rescuers to into a place where they'd get shot at by morons. Throwing dead rescuers on top of dead people doesn't save anyone's life.
Louisiana's governor playing party politics and standing in the Red Cross's way and refusing to federalize her guard troops under FEMA didn't make Brown's job any easier.
If Kayne West wants to get uptight about the way blacks are portrayed in the media, maybe he should talk to the rest of the rap community, who paint black men as sex-crazed drug dealers/addicts with no sense of responsibility and an inability to contribute anything worthwhile to society, not go after the liberal media who'll make anything a story given half a chance.

He's right, and while one American death is one American death too many, I've been trying to pay attention to Iraq from a historical war standpoint, even though I've got friends who've fought there (Hi Josh!).
